Y’all Come Back Now, Ya Hear? is inspired by my Aunt Mable — one of the strongest, kindest women I’ve ever known. She lived in Plant City, Florida — the strawberry capital of the world — and if you’ve ever been to the Strawberry Festival, you know the kind of joy that place carries. That was Aunt Mable. Pure sunshine and grit.
Independent to her core, she wouldn’t let anyone do a thing for her. Even at 80 years old she was climbing on the roof clearing tree limbs like it was nothing. But she’d drop everything to help someone else without hesitation.
Some of my favorite memories are riding with her to pick our own strawberries and black-eyed peas, hands sticky and red from juice, talking the whole way home. During strawberry season we always made a stop at Parkesdale Farms for shortcake piled high and thick strawberry milkshakes — the kind you had to eat with a spoon before you could drink them.
But her front room was her real gathering place. She could sit in there talking with folks for hours — neighbors, family, church friends — and everyone felt welcome the second they walked in.
A woman of deep faith, she never missed church, was famous for her collard greens and cornbread dressing, and no matter how long you stayed, every visit ended the same way:
“Y’all come back now… ya hear?”

For all of my life, I knew I was adopted.
What I didn't know was that one day I'd discover another piece of myself.
In 2024, I met my birth father. We're still getting to know one another, still building a relationship one conversation at a time.
After a trip to the Caribbean with Rick, I sent him photos and joked that I didn't want to come home. I wanted to be an island girl—and just lay in the sun on a rock like a lizard.
That’s when he started calling me "Island Girl."
Maybe it was just a nickname. Maybe it was his way of recognizing something in me that had always been there—a love for the ocean, and the feeling of freedom that comes from being near the water. Or maybe it's simply his way of reminding me that even after all these years apart, he sees something familiar in me.
Island Girl is more than a tropical fragrance. It's a candle about connection, unexpected relationships, second chances, and the little moments (or nicknames) that make us feel seen.
With notes of juicy pineapple that feel like sunshine, and cedarwood to keep us grounded, this candle celebrates the places we love, the people we find, and the pieces of ourselves we're still discovering.

Who we are
I was raised in Florida, with deep South Alabama ties from my Mama’s side of the family. I inherited my “Cornbread” accent—and somewhere between our front porch and the Caribbean islands that always called to me, Coconuts & Cornbread was born.
